A new kdrama, titled "Absolute Value of Romance" has started on air on April and you can watch it any available platform you have access. I can tell you isn't an ordinary school drama envolving a student and a teacher in classic romance story. This kind of plot is forbitten in Korean and i ll remind you what happend during the Kdrama "Melachologia" regarding similar theme. I think its airing on Netflix by the way, in case you are interested where to look for it.
Yoe Eui-joo writes bl novels at nights and she gets some crazy ideas for her novel from her neighboors. Her male neighbours are teachers at her HighSchool. So...isnt so simple as the viewer follows Yeo Eui-Joo at her school and her night writing her novel.
And everything may not be what they seem to be.
I saw also through the first 5 episodes a refference to the korean culture through romcom kdramas as a factor for foreingers to visit South Korea and the suprising refferences about BL novels and about young women fans and supporters. I found it very interesting because is a different world regarding the BL novels. I mean that's a new.
My research about this brand new kdrama brought to me the online newspaper "South China Morning Post" and this is what i read. The kdrama Absolute Value of romance blends the colourful atmosphere of high school comedy with an emotional intensity of BL storytelling. The drama follows the female lead Yeo Eui-Joo , a shy student who secretly writes BL novels online. Despite her passion, her stories receive little attention until she becomes fascinated by 4 handsome new neighbours whose interactions inspire a new story.
Yoe Eui-joo situation becomes awkard when she realize that 4 young men are actually new teachers at her school, including the strict mr. Ga Woo-Su, played be Cha Hak-yeon, who is also her homeroom teacher. Using overheard conversations and real life moments as inspiration. she publishes her first new novel that becomes a massive success.
The drama cleverly combines humour, romantic tension, and commentary on fandom culture, while gradyally developing an emotional connection between Yoe Eui-joo and Ga Woo-Su.
This all i know about the plot because until today, the 2nd of May i am on the 5th episode.
But i believe that it would be an underestimate kdrama because everybody is on fire to watch the very best next thing, after too long. kdrama " Perfect Crown" .
The director of "Absolute Value of Romance" is the excellent Lee Tae Gon .
